Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why have so many patients in general complained previously about having a strange expression following this type of surgery?

Of course, patients have eyelid surgery to improve the appearance of tired eyes and eyelids are very baggy with loose skin folds. In some surgery cases in the media patients have been dissatisfied with the results of a "round eye","fish eye" or "sad eye" appearance following this type of surgery. In the majority of cases, this is due to excessive skin removal by the surgeon, particularly from the lower eyelids area. The result is a retraction; a pulling effect of the skin downwards with gives a rounded appearance with an unsightly exposure of the sclera (white of the eye). All these drawbacks are avoided through the transconjunctival blepharoplasty approach practiced by our expert, plastic surgery team.

  • How long will it take for the eyelids to completely recover to their normal state?

Approximately three months. For the first three days the eyelids are very swollen and we’d advise staying at home where you can follow the post op treatments and be comfortable. Your upper eyelid stitches are removed five days after surgery (your lower lids do not require stitches as they are operated on internally) The bruises disappear completely between 8 to 14 days following surgery. Inflammation dies down by the end of the first and continues on a week by week basis until the third month when your appearance is completely normal again.
